Our Youth Group, which represents young people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases in Malta, serves as the voice of this community. As a member of the Eular Young PARE network, we strive to provide support and information to young people, break down stigma, and educate employers. Our goal is to raise awareness of RDMs, particularly among young people, in order to promote social and work inclusion and improve overall wellbeing.
To achieve our mission, Y-ARAM focuses on promoting learning skills such as action planning, relaxation techniques, communication with health professionals and family, education about nutrition and physical activity, pacing, recognizing and preventing relapses. By improving attitudes, knowledge, and behaviours related to health, we aim to improve health outcomes for young people with RDMs.
The group was founded in 2020 in response to the pandemic, which highlighted the need to provide support to young people. Since then, we have actively participated in a number of local and foreign conferences, webinars, and trainings to raise awareness and promote our mission. We also engaged in an exchange program with our partners abroad to share ideas and experiences.
In addition, we recently launched a writing group, led by a specialist counsellor, which aims to improve the wellbeing of our members by providing a platform for them to express their emotions through writing. This initiative is designed to provide an outlet for creative expression and to promote positive mental health.
